Armand Corporation, an award-winning M/WBE Construction Management firm celebrating over 33 years in the industry, is seeking a full-time Assistant Resident Engineer to join our construction management team. 

Supervising staff and managing the day-to-day activities as it relates to Engineering/Construction Management and Administrative/Financial matters. Projects include building type construction, rail, concrete work, paving, traffic maintenance with some electrical, structural, mechanical, plumbing, environmental and finishes knowledge. Inspection services on projects mainly involving electrical, electronic, electrical substations, high tension work, A/C utility service, security and camera systems, fire alarm monitoring systems, fire suppression systems, building management systems, intercom systems, and radio systems.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in in progressively more difficult and responsible construction management and inspection. Construction experience must include concrete, and reinforcing placement, structural steel, asphalt paving, drainage, building construction and preparation of estimates, as well as a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Mechanical, Civil, Structural and/or Electrical Engineering.

This position will be full-time, on-site. Candidates are expected to live in or near the New York metropolitan area.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reporting to the Senior Resident Engineer, the Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) will be required to have full knowledge and familiarity with the Contract Documents, ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications and all applicable codes and standards.
  • Review and evaluate potential items of extra work, provide justification and cost estimate, comment on, and approve quantities of work in place for payment applications in a timely fashion
  • Complete daily narrative, daily labor reports for T&M work and controlled inspection reports accurately
  • Schedule and conduct site inspections as required, attend progress meetings and final inspection
  • Document meeting minutes, perform constructability reviews for future contracts, provide meaningful comments on drawings and specifications by specified dates
  • Coordinate construction work with facility police, maintenance and operations to ensure that contracts are complete with minimum disruption to the facility.
  • The ARE will be responsible for managing 2-10 direct reports consisting of Civil/Structural Engineers, Electrical/Mechanical Engineers, Contract Specialist/Office Engineer, and Construction Inspectors.
  • The ARE will be responsible for assuring all submittals, schedules, insurance, and other contract requirements are submitted and approved by the responsible stakeholders.
  • The ARE shall keep the Resident Engineer informed on all contract discrepancies and differing field conditions.
  • The ARE shall chair meetings with contractors, facility personnel, design consultants and other stakeholders.
  • The ARE shall be able to stand in for the Resident Engineer as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural and/or Electrical engineering from an accredited college or university
  • P.E. License and/or R.A. preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in progressively more difficult and responsible construction management and inspection. Construction experience must include concrete, and reinforcing placement, structural steel, asphalt paving, drainage, building construction and preparation of estimates
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $500K to $5 million plus) and complexity (multiple crew sizes per shift).
  • OSHA 30-hour construction safety, and fall protection, confined space and permit required confined space entry and certification in work zone safety.
  •  Ability to stay late or come in early as needed. Night and weekend shifts will be required
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Ability to obtain a high SWAC clearance or SIDA at Airports or TWIC at Ports.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
