Assistant Safety Director
Armand Corporation, an award-winning M/WBE Construction Management firm with over 33 years of industry experience, is seeking a full-time Assistant Safety Director in the New York City area. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of 7 years experience in safety oversight experience on heavy civil construction projects.
If selected, candidates will need to provide digital proof of licensure and certification for all U.S.-based accolades, including academic degree, before time of interview. This position will be full-time, on-site. Candidates are expected to live in or near the New York Metropolitan area.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive safety program tailored to the heavy civil tunnel project.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards.
- Collaborate with the Safety Director to deliver safety training programs for all project personnel.
- Ensure workers are adequately trained on safety procedures, equipment usage, and emergency response protocols.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Perform documented inspections of work areas, operations, and public spaces, including shops, engineering areas, and stages.
- Inspect production sets and crew operations for safety compliance.
- Assist in creating an inspection database to track trends and generate reports.
- Manage all aspects of the safety training program, including development and regular updates.
- Support the management of the worker’s compensation program.
- Maintain safety records, including OSHA 300/301 logs and internal incident databases.
- Ensure the availability and proper use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
QUALIFICATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of safety oversight experience on heavy civil construction projects.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST) are preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to convey safety information effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Experience in fast-paced, large-scale operations, with problem-solving abilities.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and ability to manage large datasets.
- Previous experience in heavy civil construction, tunneling, or similar projects.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
